When a Festival, Bus Trip, or outing comes up in conversation with your friends / family, or an upcoming River Cruise / Raceway Park event is the topic of the moment, these will come in handy. When is that boat ride? How much does it cost? Who do I contact if I want to go? How do I become a member? I DON’T KNOW……. & they wouldn’t remember if you told them, so give them one of these! Let me know if you want some to keep in your pocket.

Letter from the AOH President John P. Kelly Division 1

Happy New Year!

Well ready or not, here we come 2013! All things considered, 2012 was a very good year for the Hibernians in Lucas County, and the New Year promises to be better than the last. I have a great slate of new officers who all go the extra mile to make things happen. The trip for two to Ireland is off and running. I could use a co chair with my new responsibilities but we will make it happen. Something new for us this year the LAOH is putting together a mass celebrating the feast day of St. Brigid February 2nd. We need this kind of event to remind us of who we are and where we came from. Thanks! The AOH has an installation dinner planned at Eddie Lee’s in February for our new members, and that is always a good time. March signals the first signs of spring and of course the wearing of the green at the K of C March 17th followed by a trip to ND for the Spring Game. Can it get any better than this? Well yes it could. All we are missing is YOU! With the start of the new year. I am looking to fill some slots that have been empty for a long time. Our division could use a historian to give us a short report each month to remind us of what our ancestor’s went through to get here. A FFAI chairman (Freedom for All Ireland) to keep us abreast of state and National efforts to promote this cause, and a chairman for Catholic Action. If anyone is interested in filling one of these slots please let me know. Having all the slots full will make for a more interesting meeting and a well rounded more informed division.

Thanks and I hope 2013 is everything you wanted and more

In case you missed out, the IRISH HERITAGE NIGHT AT THE MUD HENS was on August 12th this year and was a GREAT success! The Mud Hens promoted our festival on the Jumbotron during the game about a half dozen times & a wonderful time was had by all.

Our 22ND ANNUALTOLEDO HIBERNIAN IRISH FESTIVAL was that same week(end) on August 17th & 18th downtown Toledo on Huron St. between the Blarney & Pizza Papalis. It was very well attended. The pole vaulters were great entertainment and our musical talent was the best yet!

The RACEWAY PARK event may have been your last opportunity to see live harness racing in Toledo. Our attendance was down this year. The lack of information reaching our members (for example this newsletter) may have played a role in that.

–UPDATE-

Great news! Raceway Park management has informed us that we will get 1 more year of harness racing at Raceway Park! If you missed it this year, STAY TUNED! We will give you next year’s date as soon as it becomes available.

Finally, though the 9TH ANNUAL AOH RIVER CRUISE was originally postponed, we climbed aboard  the Sandpiper on September 27th and were treated to fall colors and deer along the banks of the mighty Maumee. Thanks to all who attended!

As always….. All of our events are open to the public. Please come and join us! See how much fun it is to be HIBERNIAN! You can see more pictures & details on www.AOHTOLEDO.com

Letter from the LAOH President Mother McCauley Division

October already? Where has this year gone? It has been an exciting year thus far, with us wrapping up a successful Toledo Irish Festival. All who were involved, no matter to what extent, should be very proud. It takes a great deal of combined effort to make such an event run smoothly. And there are still fun events yet to finish out 2012

We are now heading into the holiday season which is always a good time to reflect on our spirituality and with this we will be holding our First LAOH Retreat. And we will finish out this year with our Annual Christmas Party. I look forward to seeing everyone and sharing memories with all – I wish you all the love and happiness this season can bring and may it follow you throughout the coming year.

Have a blessed day,

Maureen Gale

It’s time to go to Hibernian School 101

The Toledo Area Hibernians have a few new tools. It’s not new to all of us but the AOH has a new website www.aohtoledo.com – We also have a new email address aohtoledo@gmail.com BUT THE FUN DOESN’T STOP THERE! We have secured a Google voice phone number that will ring directly to a chosen representative of the AOH who has information on all of our upcoming events. That phone number is 419-405-1AOH (1264). This number can be changed to ring to a different chosen representative of the AOH at any time (for example, upon elections). We also have a new QR code QR codes kind of look like UPC symbols but they can actually be scanned by smart phones. When scanned, this QR code will take you directly to our contest page on our website. This is part of a membership drive campaign. We will be collecting names, addresses, emails  and phone numbers so that we may market directly to individuals interested in our events and our organization. The business cards are new too but not exactly new technology Please ask for some or look for them at the next event / meeting. We have 2500 to get rid of in the next year.

Thanks for reading and now you are up to speed with all that is new with the Ancient Order of Hibernians

……and now you also know what we do with the sixth page of the newsletter instead of leaving it blank.

If you have not received an email from aohtoledo@gmail.com, WE DON’T HAVE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS! Please email us today at aohtoledo@gmail.com and tell us! Phone #’s too! The 9th annual AOH River cruise aboard the Sandpiper AKA The Irish Love BoatTHURSDAY JULY 26th!

We would like your reservation ahead of time for two reasons: Space is limited & we want to know how much food to bring for the hungry sailors! $25.00 per person includes a three hour cruise.
Boarding takes place starting at 6:30 PM at the foot of Jefferson in Promenade Park. The cruise goes from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM. We all watched the I280 bridge being built, you’ve probably even driven over it…see it from a whole new perspective this year!!!! Food will be provided. BYOB…please bring your beer or soda pop in cans or plastic. NO GLASS PLEASE…unless it’s a bottle of Jameson!!!!!
We will have fun…but it’s much more fun when you are there!!!!!!

For our last minute sailors you can also pay at the dock.
